Vice president Joe Biden who is on a European trip to France these days met the French President Holland in Paris at the Presidential palace and wasted little time in openly supporting Mali’s occupation by French troops. He also called it a decisive action on the part of the French and said that there was great danger that Mali could end up like Somalia had it not been for the foresight and prompt action taken by President Holland. He also praised the French military and said that the French operation has shown that the French military is ready for any contingency and is capable of taking “decisive action” to protect the European interests. It is learned that Holland tried to transfer the baton to the Americans as he reiterated that French occupation is temporary and they would like to leave Mali in the near future. Malians are wary of French as they remember the colonial era under France, when tens of thousands of Mali’s were killed by the French who suppressed the pro-democratic aspirations of the local people in an effort to perpetuate their rule in Mali. Holland also talked to Biden if a U.N. cover could be provided for Mali occupation, which Biden is said to have been favorably inclined.
