In a press release Pentagon announced that it had prepared a comprehensive plan for the initial phased withdrawal from Afghanistan. The press release also circulated some photographs which show the military hardware being loaded on the trailers. It is estimated that the total withdrawal from that war torn country will take approximately six month to a year. There are over ten thousand pieces of heavy equipment that will traverse thru Khyber pass in Pakistan, not too far from the tribal belt in Pakistan, where Al-Qaeda militants are fighting the Pakistani military. To lessen the impact of any attacks on the withdrawing units it is expected that U.S. will push the Pakistani military to step up their attacks on the Pakhtun tribesmen, thus giving the convoys a cover under which they could quickly crisscross and get out of the troubled area.
